Mesotherapy

French physician Michael Pistor first started mesotherapy to relieve chronic pain. It has gradually found its uses in a multitude of cosmetic purposes. It is a non-surgical, minimally invasive technique used to deliver small injections of various substances directly into the middle layer of the skin. It is found to be helpful in many skin and hair conditions. Microinjections of useful vitamins, minerals, plant extracts, and active ingredients like hyaluronic acid are given inside the skin with the help of fine needles. Mesotherapy aims to provide treatment directly to the affected area without having any systemic side effects of the treatment product. It is quite a safe procedure with minimal downtime. Mild redness is normal over the treated areas and usually settles within 4-6 hours. Due to its scientifically proven benefits and the non-invasiveness of the procedure, mesotherapy is being chosen by dermatologists and celebrities alike to take care of their skin.

How Does Mesotherapy Work?

Different meso solutions work in different manners.

  1. Rejuvenation
A combination of multivitamins, plant amino acids, plant extracts, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid is used as a meso solution. It helps revitalize and hydrate the skin, boosts new collagen, and counteracts toxic aging chemicals. Skin imperfections like uneven skin texture, photodamage, and signs of aging are removed, and one is left with nice, glowing, and youthful skin. In addition, there is smoothening of wrinkles around the eyes and skin tightening, thus rightly calling this procedure bio-revitalization.
  2. Scar revision –
Acne scars can make one’s face look unsightly and can markedly lower one’s self-esteem. Mesotherapy with a growth factor is a good option to take care of these scars. The new collagen fills up the scars, and the growth factors enhance this process of collagen synthesis. Peptides, vitamins, and minerals used in the meso cocktail enhance the elastin and collagen production of the skin, which improves the texture and makes the scar less evident.
  3. Hair loss –
Vitamins and amino acid cocktails in meso solutions increase blood flow and augment hair growth. With successive sessions, the texture, as well as the density of hair, improves. The growth factor is also delivered following the meso technique. Growth factors and healing proteins are released from the patient’s blood, boosting the hair follicles and stimulating hair growth. Both hormone-dependent hair loss and stress-induced hair loss or balding show promising results with mesotherapy.
  4. Pigmentation and melasma –
Skin-lightening agents like lysine, vitamin C, kojic acid, and azelaic acid are directly injected into areas of pigmentation, which breaks down the pigments, thus decreasing the darkness of the patches and reducing their size. This gives the face a natural glow and brightening effect.
  5. Meso-anti-wrinkle injection –
The anti-aging protein can be given in microinjection to take care of fine lines along the eyes and open pores.
  6. Fat loss – Bothersome double chin, cellulite, lipomas, and cholesterol deposits in the form of xanthelasmas can also be taken care of with the meso technique. Caffeine and deoxycholate are some of the ingredients used for lipolysis to reduce fat and give a firmer, slimmer chin.

How is Mesotherapy Performed?

In our clinic, we ensure and maintain the highest safety standard while performing such procedures. Trained medical professionals inject meso solution while maintaining strict aseptic precautions.

A numbing cream is applied to the skin area to be treated. After 30 minutes, the area is cleaned with an alcohol swab, and microinjections of meso solution are administered. Disposable syringes or needles are used depending on the area to be treated. It can be done in 2 ways:

  • Direct injection beneath the surface of the skin.
  • Microneedling by using a Dermapen – It consists of very fine needles that can go up to our desired depth depending on the area and condition being treated and create microchannels on the skin surface. Small droplets of meso solution are applied on the skin surface, and with the help of a derma pen, the solution is put inside the skin using either the stamping or rolling method, or both.

How Many Sessions Are Required?

Repeated sessions of mesotherapy are required to achieve the desired results. 4-6 sessions at 3-4 weeks are recommended for optimum results.

What are the Side Effects of Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a safe and relatively painless office procedure. There is practically no downtime, and patients can resume their daily life after a mesotherapy session. However, small, localized, short-lasting side effects may be observed due to injection, like bruising, swelling, redness, and pain. One should avoid washing hair or any medicine or oil application over the scalp for the next 24 hours after a hair meso is done. After face mesotherapy, one should avoid direct sun exposure and avoid the application of other active ingredients for the next 72 hours.

Contraindications of Mesotherapy:

Mesotherapy should be avoided in pregnant and lactating ladies and in individuals with active skin/scalp inflammation or infection, diabetes, hemophilia, and other coagulation disorders and epilepsy.
