What are the different types of Reconstructive surgeries?
1. Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is a procedure done after mastectomy to restore breasts to near their normal shape, appearance, symmetry and size. There are two ways of performing Breast reconstruction
a) Implant-based reconstruction (using breast implants)
b) flap reconstruction (using the patient’s own tissue from another part of the body).
2. Cleft lip and palate repair
This surgery is done to correct one of the most common birth defects- Cleft lip and Cleft palate. The procedure helps to correct abnormal development and restore a more normal appearance.
3. Hand or Foot Surgery
Various deformities of the hand such as birth deformities, carpal tunnel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and Dupuytren’s contracture can be improved with hand surgeries so as to relieve the patients of pain and improve the strength and functionality of the wrist and fingers.
Foot surgeries are performed for people whose feet are affected by tumors, or by webbed or extra toes.
