Sebaceous Cyst Removal and Treatment

Sebaceous Cyst Removal

Sebaceous cysts are common skin conditions characterized by small bumps underneath the skin. This condition can affect people of all ages, but is most common in teenagers and adults. They can occur on the entire body, but are more commonly found on the trunk of the body, neck, face and scalp.

What are Sebaceous Cysts

  • The sebaceous glands secrete the oily substance called sebum that lubricates our hair and skin. The epidermis is made up of a fine layer of skin cells that the body usually sheds, but sometimes these cells move deeper in the skin and multiply, causing sebaceous cysts.
  • This condition may also be caused by an impaired sebaceous oil gland or a hair follicle.
  • Adults who are past their puberty and experience acne are more prone to sebaceous cysts.
  • Some rare genetic disorders can also be the cause of such lumps in the skin.

Occurrence  of such sebaceous cysts can lower the self-esteem of the person and thus, hamper the quality of life. Therefore, this otherwise benign skin condition needs to be treated. These cysts can also become inflamed or swollen and can sometimes cause pain and general discomfort.

Removal of cysts-when to consider

In some cases the cysts grow over time and thus, require removal.

Cyst removal is also considered if a blackhead is present on the cyst or if foul smelling liquid is present in it.In case of  genital epidermoid cysts, patients experience pain and discomfort during intercourse and urination. These must thus, be removed at the earliest.

If the dermatologist suspects the cysts to be cancerous, the dermatologist after thorough examination, will advise an immediate removal and a biopsy. At Skinzest Hair Clinic, we offer a range of treatments for sebaceous cysts including safe removal of the cysts as well.

Treatment of Infected Cysts

Infected or ruptured cysts can lead to inflammation and hence, require immediate removal. Our expert dermatologists first treat the inflammation followed by removal of the entire sebaceous cyst.

At Skinzest, we focus on removing the entire sebaceous cyst so that the cystic development may nor reoccur in that area again.

We also deploy extraction methods that require a small incision and thus, leaves minimal scarring behind. Our dermatologists also recommend a skin care routine to the patients who are more prone to sebaceous cysts.
