A Electrocauterization is a routine dermatosurgical procedure that uses an electric current to remove damaged or infected tissue, or manage bleeding in tiny blood vessels

What is the procedure for Electrocautery and Radiofrequency?

After anaesthetizing the treatment area with a numbing cream or a numbing injection, a small probe with an electric current running through it is used to burn or destroy the tissue. A grounding pad is placed on the body (usually the thigh) before the surgery to protect the person from the harmful effects of the electricity. A scab or crust will form over the treated area over the next 3-5 days which falls off by 10-14 days on its own.

For what conditions are Electrocautery and Radiofrequency done?

Electrocautery and Radiofrequency are used to treat:

  • Skin tags
  • Warts
  • Moles
  • Milia
  • Molluscum contagiosum
  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Xanthelasma
  • Corns
  • Pyogenic granuloma
  • Comedones
  • Biopsy of any abnormal or suspicious skin lesions
What is the recovery time post the procedure?

The skin returns to normal state usually by 1-3 weeks depending upon the skin problem and size of the lesion.

Post procedure care

You will be advised to keep the area dry and apply an antibiotic cream twice daily over the treated area for 7- 10 days. Oral antiobiotics are usually not required.
